Succession Planning

Succession planning is essential because many of you, as leaders, if you are like us, find that after you do a certain work for a while, the work gets old. It becomes routine and you want a new challenge. It's hard to take on new challenges when no one is developed to carry out the responsibilities you want to pass on to someone, right?

Possible tools include the development and use of a competency profile, analysis of human resource plans and your resource pool, development of individual leadership profiles and use of the information gathered to form your development plans.

As you build a succession planning model, a few important questions to ask include:

  • What skills and knowledge will your company need 5 years from now?
  • What core competencies do your employees have now versus what they will need later?
  • How will you ensure that you have those core competencies?
  • What behavioral values do you need?
  • What's the difference between a good direct report and a not so good direct report?
  • What are behaviors do you do well today? How might they be improved upon in the future?

We encourage you to think about these questions. Why? Because if you don't know what you're looking for, you're not likely to get it and we want your needs to be met. Call us if you have questions about how to develop and implement a succession planning model in your company. We look forward to being able to assist you in this exciting endeavor!
