Executive Leadership Coaching IS about discovery, learning, and exploring what you believe about your own leadership potential and moving toward those things in strategic ways. It is about helping you to enhance your effectiveness and truly enjoy your work. Creating new habits and new neuro pathways to increase your effectiveness and happiness is all part of the work we do together.
Executive Leadership Coaching is NOT therapy, counseling or consulting. While our approach is holistic and takes into account how you came to be in this moment, our coaching focus will be on the professional results you wish to achieve.
Today’s financial and social realities, the challenge of retaining top talent, and the imperative to lead with grace while producing positive results…all make top notch executive coaching even greater and more urgent than ever.
The art of leadership is more than mastering the ability to wield power and influence over others. It is a set of learned human interaction skills that lead to improved performance, increased engagement and productivity, more opportunities for service, and reductions in costly and ineffective practices. It requires an awareness of one’s impact on others, emotional intelligence, and being mindful of your actions and behaviors.
The science of leadership is as important as the art. Neither functions well without the other. The science of leadership requires focused alignment of mission, vision, and values, the right data, processes, policies, structures, and methodologies to support and advance the vision and mission. We need to fully understand why and what we are doing (mission) and where we’re going (vision) in order to get there.

IF ONE OR MORE OF THESE SOUNDS LIKE A WINNER TO YOU, LET’S TALK!
There are THREE PHASES in building a successful coaching relationship and partnership and there are several steps within these phases. Some may happen within the same conversation and/or get revisited. The list below provides the general structure for the overall “arc” of the process we will explore together.
STEP 1: Fit – Our first conversation is learning about each other to ensure we are comfortable moving forward with our coaching partnership. It’s about connecting on both a human and professional level, thereby understanding how we might work together.
STEP 2: Expectations – We will agree upon clear mutual expectations and our “coaching contract”. This is how we agree we will treat one another and how we will involve anyone else if necessary - such as a sponsor for the coaching contract if your employer is paying for the coaching engagement.
STEP 3: The Goal/s – We will explore what matters most to you, learn why this is important to you, and determine what outcome/s you want in order to achieve your goal/s.
STEP 4: Self-Discovery – This may include various instrumentation to give you a fuller picture of your leadership opportunities and challenges. This is also an opportunity to clarify your personal mission, vision, and values, and to learn more about your and others' perceptions and beliefs and what matters to both you and others going forward.
You will become more aware, give yourself the space to be present with that awareness, make choices, and take action. In this phase, we work with your motivations – where you have high clarity and high commitment – identify your strengths and learning "edges" as they relate to the goals you’ve identified. Assuming you are doing your work in our coaching partnership, your awareness will increase, motivation to achieve your goals will heighten, and you will start seeing the results that matter most to you.
STEP 5: Charting the Course – We work on specific actions and choices that impact your life. Your goals are developed to meet your objectives. This phase also converts your commitment to yourself into solid and achievable action plans, with milestones and timelines. This is the phase to ensure your success. Accountability, actions, and attitude are aligned.
STEP 6: Making it “Stick” – This is the support and “sticking to it” part of our engagement. Your desired outcomes and actions are tracked and documented as new habits and new behaviors are cemented. We plan for solid checks and balances and feedback loops. This is also the time when we determine how much, if any, more work we want to do together in our coaching partnership.
While all of these steps and phases are anchored within our coaching sessions, progress toward your goals can only be propelled forward by your personal commitment and choices. You are the ‘driver’. I am your ‘tour guide’. I will point out the signs in the road, offer reflections and challenges during your journey. A successful coaching partnership requires both parties to give it their “all” and I promise to do exactly that every step of the way.
Being your Executive Leadership Coach is important to me. After decades of seeing leaders wanting to 'up' their game, or struggle with challenges, or feel alone and unsure of how to shift a current reality in their work and life, I am committed to offering my support through coaching. I have been in leadership roles all of my career and there aren't many, if any, challenges you raise that I haven't seen myself or with other leaders.
You can read my bio and wander around this site to see what I have done, am doing, and how it might be useful to you. I am an author, coach, consultant, and national speaker with a boat load of successful executive level leadership coaching experience in the corporate, higher education, and non-profit sectors. If I can be of service to you, or if you aren't sure yet, just get in touch with me directly. I promise that I read everything from anyone wanting to explore a coaching partnership.
I believe in continuous learning and improving myself as a coach. While I coached informally for many years, I knew coaching as a serious profession was a calling. To that end, I became a Credentialed Coach with the International Coaching Federation and I am a Certified Presence-Based® Coach having studied under Doug Silsbee, a preeminent author and an international thought leader. It changed my life, as I hope coaching will help you change yours into what you want it to be.
It may matter to you that I have a Master’s degree from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and had a successful career as a senior leader of professional, administrative, and bargaining unit staff for 27 years at Cornell University as well as being asked to serve as Adjunct Faculty in the ILR School for several years. I've also been a consultant and entrepreneur with deep knowledge of ROI, hiring, retaining, and firing, marketing, project management, budget and finance, and shaping the customer experience within the organization's culture.
